Creek Life

I absolutely love the creek life in Pawleys Island! I am a beach girl but since my husband and I moved here two years ago, I have fallen in love with the creeks around the beach. When we first came, we knew we wanted a boat. Brian, my husband grew up on a lake so he always had a boat. Lucky for me, he would soon become my captain as I ventured out on the boat with him. I am still in the process of learning the ropes of maneuvering a boat. We asked around for months while shopping for boats about what kind we needed. The consensus was, 16 ft john boat. Almost everyone we knew with boats had at least one 16 ft. john boat. So, one day the perfect boat fell into our laps for a great deal and has allowed us many special moments and memories since this purchase. Our boat is not huge, glamorous, or has smells of roses, but its perfect for our family of three, soon to be four, which includes, Brian, myself, Wally our dog, and soon to be baby girl Harper.
With weather temperatures being fair year round, we are able to experience water activities even through the colder months. My most recent excitement has been finding my first live sand dollar on the shoreline of North Inlet in Georgetown, SC. At first I thought it was a jelly fish because it was a purple color. When I bent down and poked the back of it, I noticed that it was in fact a huge sand dollar! I immediately picked up to examine. The tentacles on the bottom moved just like a star fish tentacles. It was so neat to finally find one, and even better that it was alive! After taking a few pictures and calming down, I gave it my best wishes and put back into the water. My husband and I were astounded at finding one and will never forget that moment.

If you are ever able to take a walk around the creeks of coastal SC, you are more than likely to find a few treasures. One of the best parts of living near water is the wildlife. Please take care of what you find and if it is alive, let it continue to live for others to find. Maybe next time you are in the creek, you will be as lucky as me and find a sand dollar as well!
